Thom Collegiate Class of 2021
December 11, 2020
This is not a typical year in regards to many aspects of school. Our students continue to be an inspiration as they remain flexible, creative and resilient with each new change thrown our way. Graduation is an important milestone and celebrating this achievement for our students remains a priority for our staff. Planning is currently complicated by many factors out of our control. The purpose of this memo is to provide our grade twelve students and families with as much information regarding graduation plans as we possibly can at this time.
Our graduation date has not been set. If an in-person graduation ceremony is permitted by public health orders we may have to do so in smaller groupings over multiple days and there could be additional costs for families.
You may want to refrain from purchasing any expensive graduation attire until we know if an in-person event is even a possibility or what that might look like if it is.
Graduation photos are being taken by Lifetouch here at Thom Collegiate the week of January 5th to 8th in the auditorium. YOU MUST BOOK YOUR SESSION TIME according to the Lifetouch memo attached. Please note that there is NO CHARGE for yearbook only photos but YOU STILL NEED TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT. There is a $30 sitting fee for a full photo session to be paid by debit or credit. Grad caps cannot be provided for these photos but you may bring your own if you wish to wear one (perhaps borrow from a previous graduate).
With sincere hopes for an in-person ceremony we have decided to go ahead and order the caps & gowns for each student. The cost to you will be $25 and can be paid through https://www.reginapublicschools.ca/schoolcashonline. You will be provided your cap and gown as purchased regardless of whether or not we can have an in-person ceremony. We will be reaching out at a later date to collect measurements by e-mail.
A tradition at Thom is to create a slideshow including a baby photo and a graduation photo for each student (including all members of the Class of 2021 whether or not they will meet graduation requirements by June). We will go ahead with this portion of grad whether our event is in-person or virtual. Please e-mail one baby picture to Thomgrad2021@gmail.com and clearly indicate the student name and homeroom in the subject line. Lifetouch will automatically provide us with the formal graduation photo for each student. Please e-mail your baby photo by March 31st.
Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding as we do our best to start some planning for this special occasion.
